Chamber board focuses on business in July

Friday, August 10, 2012

Business activities of the Monett Chamber of Commerce provided the focus for the July meeting of the Board of Directors.

Preparations were discussed for the new teacher's luncheon on Aug. 2, the official greeting extended by the business community to new faculty and administrators joining the Monett R-1 School District this fall. Several retired teachers have been recruited to serve as mentors to the new teachers.

Chamber executive director Jeff Meredith said the new teachers luncheon offered a chance to sell new employees on living in Monett.

The cookbook committee has organized, headed by Lenny Davis from Printing and More. Kylee Campbell and Brisa Rueda are also working with project director Adriana Salas. Favorite recipes are now being accepted for the book. Oct. 1 is the target for having the new edition available.

Problems with the chamber's elf hut at South Park were reported. Vandals broke four windows in the building. Meredith said maintenance expenses only reduce the funds available to expand the holiday lighting effort. He is exploring putting shutters on the building.

Two businesses outside of Monett have been approached to join the chamber. Meredith said businesses catering to the Monett audience should consider taking advantage of benefits offered through the chamber. Two businesses made contacts about opening offices in Monett. Meredith planned to encourage such consideration, especially filling local needs with local people.

The chamber will return to the airwaves as Meredith has accepted KKBL radio's offer to revive the "Chamber Chat" program. He hopes to extend the show to the Spanish language station as well with Salas's help.

A new full-time and a new part-time employee have started at the license office.

The license office's collection of Plates from the States has grown to 27. Anyone with a distant license plate available can call 235-6678 to learn if the sample is needed for the collection.

The Industry Council scheduled its next quarterly meeting for Sept. 10. A special meeting to discuss the Hydro Aluminum closing was scheduled for Aug. 7 which will be attended by the Monett City Council.

The next chamber board meeting will be Aug. 15.
