The Monett/Purdy Habitat for Humanity affiliate will meet at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14, at the First Christian Church in Monett, located at Fourth and Wishart.

A retirement ceremony for Col. Michele Hovland from the U.S. Armed Forces will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 25, at Irwin-Easley American Legion Post #118 in Cassville. The public is welcome to attend.

Purdy Elementary School will hold its open house from 5 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14. Parents and students are urged to attend, become acquainted with the staff and facilities. New superintendent Dr. Steven Chancellor will be on hand to greet those attending.

The first practice for the Pierce City Middle School volleyball team will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 13, in the Central Elementary gym. Participating seventh and eighth graders must have a physical and proof of insurance.

The annual Pierce City football alumni event will be held on Saturday, Aug. 11, at Don Keebaugh stadium at Pierce City High School. A flag football game will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. followed by an evening meal and dance at St. Mary's Catholic Church. For more information, call Kenny O'Hara at 417-489-6632.

A spaghetti dinner will be hosted by American Legion Post #91 on Thursday, Aug. 16, from 5 to 7 p.m. Cost is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 12, The cost includes salad, dessert and beverage. The Post is located at 717 E. Broadway.

The VFW Post #4207 Ladies Auxiliary will host a luncheon on Wednesday, Aug. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will consist of roast pork stuffing with gravy, season carrots, salads, dessert and beverage for $6.

The 24th annual Pierce City Car Show will be held on Saturday, Sept. 1, at the Pierce City South Park. Registration will be from 8 a.m. to noon. The fee to participate is $15. The top 75 vehicles will receive a trophy. For more information, call Kevin Hatfield at 417-850-0940.

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Department will host basic law enforcement academy beginning Aug. 16. The academy will be a 700-hour course that will qualify graduates with a Class A peace officer license in Missouri. Sessions will meet Tuesday and Thursday nights and weekends. Registration is available online at www.mosheriffs.com.

A monthly dance at the Monett Senior Citizens Center, 405 Dairy St., will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 6. Music will be provided by the Fun Timers Band. Admission is $3. Those attending are urged to bring pot luck or finger food.

A class on siblings for families of newborns will be offered from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 14 at Cox Monett Hospital, in the Conference Room C on the third floor. Classes are free to women who plan to deliver at Cox Monett. Registration is required and can be made by calling 417-354-1300.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will hold a blood drive at 3 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 16 at the VFW Hall on Highway 39 in Shell Knob.

Al-Anon meetings are held at 6:30 p.m. on Mondays at the First Baptist Church in Pierce City, on North Highway 97, in the west wing.
