Wednesday, August 8, 2012

Katie Kaiser, of Monett, holds her participation trophy from attending the Dancemakers Inc. national convention and competition in Myrtle Beach, SC. Kaiser is wearing her costume from ther jazz dance routine. Trophies were awarded to the top three contestants in each of the dance styles.
Katie Kaiser, a sophomore at Monett High School this fall, participated at the Dancemakers Inc. national convention and competition on June 25 at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Kaiser, the daughter of Mark and Natalie Kaiser, of Monett, has been a student at the Mary Beck School of Dance in Monett for 13 years. She qualified for the Dancemakers event in Branson in February, earning a scholarship to cover her expenses.

Around 150 dances from high school to age 20 participated at the event. Kaiser studied hip hop, ballet, tap, jazz and lyrical dance in two and a half hour sessions that ran through the day.

"It was a worthwhile experience," Kaiser said, "though I was one of the youngest ones there. The highlight was studying with the hip hop instructor who has worked with Justin Bieber, Britney Spears, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez."

Kaiser performed her two and a half minute jazz dance solo. She is working on two solos for her season with the Mary Beck studio and hopes to go to college in dance.

Kaiser's mother and sister, Kelsey, accompanied her to the Dancemakers event
