Summer is winding down and area students are preparing to return to classes at area schools.
Enrollment information, schedule pick up and other important information for area school districts follows.
The opening day of school for Monett R-1 School District is scheduled for Aug. 15.
Senior schedule pick-up was on Wednesday or Thursday, Aug. 1 and 2.
Juniors may pick up their schedules on Friday or Monday, Aug. 3 and 6.
Sophomores may pick up their schedules on Tuesday, Aug. 7.
The student laptop insurance fee will be $50 or $35 for the full year per student depending on free or reduced lunch status.
Students that are prepared to pay the insurance fee at the time of their schedule pick up will be allowed to take their laptop home. No laptop computer will be issued to go home with students until the fee is paid.
Any student driving to school must register their vehicle and will have an assigned parking space. The license plate number, make and model of the vehicle they will be driving must be provided.
The office will be open for schedule pick-up from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Juniors and seniors should allow time to visit with a counselor when they pick up their schedule.
Freshmen orientation is scheduled for Tuesday, Aug. 7 at the high school gymnasium. Activities for freshmen students will begin at 4 p.m. followed by a cook-out held for freshmen students and their parents beginning at 6:15 p.m.
A general information meeting for freshmen students and their parents will be held in the gym starting at 7 p.m.
The opening day of school for Purdy R-II School District is scheduled for Aug. 15. Doors will open at 8 a.m., and students who do not have a scheduled after-school activity will need to leave the building by 3:30 p.m.
Purdy Elementary will hold its new student enrollment for the 2012-13 school year on Tuesday, Aug. 7 and Wednesday, Aug. 8, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. both days. Children must accompany parents for the enrollment process, which should take approximately 30 minutes.
Students in grades 5 through 12 who are new to the district have the opportunity to enroll on Aug. 6 and 7 between the hours of 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
A parent or legal guardian must be present to enroll their student. Parents of students new to the district must bring a copy of their child's immunizations records, birth certificate, evidence of residency, such as a utility or rent receipt, name and address of previous school, and a transcript of grades. Parents must also provide personal identification or custodial documentation.
New students will not be enrolled on the first day of school, Wednesday, Aug. 15. New student enrollment will resume on Thursday, Aug. 16 by appointment only.
Seventh and eighth grade students, who scheduled in the spring, will be able to pick up class schedules on Aug. 7 and Aug. 8 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in the middle school office.
The high school counselor will be available in her office between the hours of 9 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. for schedule pick-up on Aug. 7 for seniors, on Aug. 8 for juniors, and Aug. 9 for sophomores.
Students in both the middle school and high school who scheduled classes in the spring will need to bring emergency contact numbers and any updated immunization records. All debts must be paid before schedules may be picked up.
Fifth, sixth, and ninth grade orientation will be held on Thursday, Aug. 9.
Fifth and sixth grade orientation will begin at 6 p.m. in the middle school.
Ninth grade orientation will begin at 7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Students must be accompanied by parents and are urged to attend.
Information about the middle school and high school programs will be provided, and students will receive their schedules at this time and sign-up for lockers. All obligations must be paid before schedules and lockers will be released. Students must take phone numbers for emergency, home, and work contacts and any updated immunization records.
Buses will be running the same routes.
Pierce City R-6
The first day of classes for Pierce City R-6 District will be Aug. 16.
New student enrollment is scheduled for Thursday, Aug. 9 and Friday, Aug. 10. Parents of students new to the district must bring a copy of their child's immunizations records, birth certificate, evidence of residency, such as a utility or rent receipt, and a Social Security card.
Freshman orientation took place in the spring before classes dismissed for the summer.
The first day of classes at Verona R-7 District will be Thursday, Aug. 16. Classes begin at 8 a.m. and end at 3:06 p.m.
New student enrollment will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Aug. 8 through Aug. 10. Parents of students new to the district must bring a copy of their child's immunizations records, birth certificate, evidence of residency, such as a utility or rent receipt, and a Social Security card.
Returning students will be given schedules and registration packets on the first day of school. All students must be current on immunizations.
St. Mary's Catholic School
First day of classes at St. Mary's Catholic School in Pierce City is Aug. 15 and will dismiss at 12:30 p.m. A pool party will follow from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Parents should have children pre-registered and tuition fees paid before the start of classes.
St. Lawrence Catholic School
First day of school for St. Lawrence Catholic School in Monett will be Thursday, Aug. 16. Doors open to students at 7:30 a.m. The school is accepting new students. The school offers a morning or an extended day preschool option. St. Lawrence Catholic School has openings in preschool through sixth grade for the upcoming 2012-2013 school year. Those wishing to enroll their children may pick up enrollment information at the school office. Summer office hours are 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Additional information may be found on the school's website at www.stlawcs.com.
