A new school year

Wednesday, August 1, 2012

August marks the beginning of a new school year. Stephanie Schumacher, who begins her senior year at Monett High School, pauses on the bench made with the inscription "High School" that came from Monett's original 1905 high school building. The building's cornerstone is part of the scoreboard at rear. The original high school was torn down 40 years ago this month. Stephanie, the daughter of Pam Schumacher and Tom Schumacher, is captain of the varsity cheer squad and has been a cheerleader for 10 years. She is an eight-year member of the WaterThrashers swim team. At school she is a member of the National Honor Society, Thespian Society, choir, the speech and debate squad, Art Club, Student Council, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the FFA. She enjoys photography, reading, painting and working in the garden. She also volunteers at the Community Kitchen. Stephanie has a sister, Kaitlyn, and two cats, Pepper and Rowdie. Next fall she plans to go to John Brown University in Arkansas and major in education. [Times Photo by Murray Bishoff]
