Smoking

Thursday, July 26, 2012

Leon Riggs was called to the home of Steven and Michele DeSutter in Monett to try and remove a colony of honeybees that had taken up residence there. Riggs is pictured above "Smoking" the bees, which makes them gorge on honey in preparation to swarm to a new location. At that point the bees are relatively safe and unable to sting a person. Unfortunately, the bees were located behind the siding in such a manner, Riggs was unable to remove the colony. "I bought some honey from Leon, we chatted a little more, and then he went home," Michele, a well-known Monett artist, said. "I might have to start incorporating images of bees in some of my art."
