Carthage-Joplin Regional Stockyards: Cow and Bull Auction 7/25/12

   Compared to last Wednesday, the bulk of slaughter cows sold 2.00-4.00
higher with some high-dressing cows 6.00-7.00 higher and slaughter bulls
sold 2.00-3.00 higher. The offering included several herd reductions from
producers running short of forage and water. A moderate number of bred cows
returned to the farm but very few cow/calf pairs returned to the farm with
several split in the sale ring and the cows going to slaughter. Supply was
heavy and demand good for slaughter classes.

   Bred Cows:  Medium and Large 1-2  2 yrs to short and solid mouth 2nd and
3rd stage 975-1330 lbs most 840.00-1050.00, several better quality from herd
reductions 1125.00-1210.00, 1st stage 1000-1300 lbs 810.00-1005.00; broken
mouth 3rd stage 1105 lb indiv. 750.00. Large 1-2  2-6 yrs 3rd stage 1340-1405
lbs 1070.00-1150.00. Medium and Large 2  5-6 yrs 2nd stage 890-910 lbs 760.00-
860.00. Medium 1-2  4-7 yrs 2nd and 3rd stage 875-1030 lbs 685.00-900.00, 1st

   Cow/Calf Pairs:  Medium and Large 1-2  2-7 yrs 1080-1295 lb cows w/babies
to 230 lb calves and a few rebred 1075.00-1250.00. Medium 1-2  pkg. 5-6 yrs
960 lb cows w/170-210 lb calves 1175.00 per pair.
