Purdy Festival nears

Monday, July 16, 2012

The Purdy community is gearing up for the Purdy Festival, Cars, Cows and Corn, taking place on Saturday, July 21.

For the inaugural event, the Purdy Festival Committee has scheduled a day filled with fun and activities sure to appeal to young and old alike.

Kids will have the opportunity to enjoy free amusement rides, water games, a pedal tractor pull and a petting zoo.

Older youth and adults can participate in bathtub races and a classic/antique car show.

A farmer's market will be set up in the air-conditioned north gym and will feature arts, crafts and homemade goods competitions. The air-conditioned south gym will be home to the Purdy Livestock Show.

The event will also feature a BBQ cook-off, a fiddle contest, a Veterans' Memorial dedication and reception, a bathtub race and more.

The Purdy Fire Department will offer a barbecue chicken dinner from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

Bands will perform live music throughout the day, with local favorite Tequila, Lime, No Salt winding up the evening's entertainment starting at 8 p.m.
