The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office will host a law enforcement academy beginning Aug. 16 at the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office. The 700-hour course will qualify students with a Class A peace officer license in Missouri. The class will meet on Tuesday and Thursday nights as well as Saturdays and some Sundays. The Aurora Chamber of Commerce will host a 4-person scramble golf tournament at Honey Creek Golf Course starting at 8 a.m. on Saturday, July 28. A rabies clinic will be held from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, July 21, at the South Park in Pierce City, at the west pavilion, sponsored by the Animal Clinic of Monett and the Pierce City Police Department. Cost is $7.50 per animal.
The Purdy Festival will get underway at 10 a.m. on Saturday, July 21. The inaugural event will feature a chicken dinner, served from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., amusement rides, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, a farmer's market, a bbq cook-off, a fiddle contest and more. Local favorites Tequila, Lime, No Salt will round out the evening's musical entertainment, starting at 8 p.m.

A babysitters training camp will be held July 16 through July 20 from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. by the American Red Cross. The fee is $150. Campers will be certified in babysitters training, infant and child CPR and first aid.
