Wednesday, July 11, 2012

A fight led to Barry County deputies to execute a search warrant on a Cassville residence that ended with five people being arrested.

On June 30, Barry County Deputy Terry Burgess responded to a call that four male subjects were reportedly fighting at a residence on Highway 76. The officer was told one of the subjects might be suffering from a stab wound.

Upon arrival, Burgess located five subjects at the residence. While clearing the residence, Burgess observed plastic tubing with electrical tape wrapped on one end laying in plain sight.

After clearing the residence, one of the subjects, Travis Jones, 35, of Cassville, attempted to run from officers. Jones had an outstanding felony warrant.

After a request for permission to search the residence was refused, responding officers contacted Barry County Sheriff Mick Epperly and the Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force to obtain a search warrant for the house and a detached garage, which was being rented by Tyler Ferara, 20, of Cassville.

Epperly, Barry County deputies and members of the Southwest Missouri Drug Task Force executed the warrant and discovered lithium batteries, hypodermic syringes, marijuana pipes, a green leafy substance in small bags believed to be marijuana, three metal spoons with a white powdery residue, a small a bag of white crystals and scales.

In a bedroom occupied by Ferara, officers found currency, scales, a small bag of white powdery substance, several bags with a green leafy substance, a cardboard box containing approximately 97 grams of a green leafy substance, a plastic bag containing purple and blue pills believed to be ecstasy, a plastic bag with green pills and a ledger book.

Five subjects were arrested and charged as follows:

* Ferara was charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute or sell. Bond was set at $75,000,

* Travis Jones was charged with possession of a controlled substance and resisting arrest. His bond was set at $25,000. Jones also had two warrants for failure to appear out of Cassville for disorderly conduct and vicious animal.

* David Mitchell, 32, of Monett, was charged with possession of a controlled substance. His bond was set at $25,000.

* Brianna Bettencourt, 22, of Cassville, was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Her bond was set at $10,000. Bettencourt also had a warrant out of Washburn for failure to appear on the charge of driving without a license.

* Andrea Jones, 28, of Cassville, was charged with possession of a controlled substance. Her bond was set at $4,900.

At this time, Travis Jones and Mitchell are still in custody at the Barry County Jail. Andrea Jones, Bettencourt and Ferara were released on bond.
