He moved to Monett from Carthage in 1942. He worked as a yard switchman (brakeman) for the Frisco Railroad and worked as a carpenter after retiring from the railroad. He served with the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Eugene is survived by two sons, Gary Keltner, wife Marsha, of Garfield, Ark. and James "Jim" Keltner, wife Debbie, of Cassville, Mo.; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by both his parents, Clyde Henry Keltner (1884-1939) and Bertha Elizabeth (Kerkemeyer) Keltner (1892-1977); his wife, Geneva (1920-1976); long-time companion and family friend, Helen Ballay; one daughter: Delores Jean (Keltner) Amos (1939-1997); maternal grandparents, Theodore Henry Kerkemeyer (1860-1947) and Mary Magdalena (Eck) Kerkemeyer (1871-1931); and paternal grandparents, Henry John Keltner (1855-1930) and Anna Choloe (Scott) Keltner (1863-1943).
Visitation will be held Tuesday July 10, 2012 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Mo. Graveside service will be Wednesday July 11, 2012 at 10 a.m. at Monett I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Monett with Rev. Arnold Ray Evans officiating.
