The heat didn't seem to bother young Tate Maldonado as he and his dad, Kelly, perused the plethora of fireworks at a local stand west of Monett on Highway 60. "We're just buying teaser ones today," said Kelly, "just to get him through to the weekend. We'll be back to buy a lot more." Proceeds from the sale of the fireworks from the stand located in front of the Tom Wolfe Memorial VFW Post #4207, will benefit the VFW and its assorted programs. According to Richard Redshaw and Gay Cendroski, who are running the tent, said sales are up from last year, although the triple-digit temperatures have been too hot to have much traffic. "Business will pick up around the weekend," Cendroski said.
