Monett's Post #91 defeated Carl Junction Post #781 by a 3-2 count on Saturday to win the 17th annual Carl Junction Post #781 AAA American Legion Baseball Invitational. The Monett team advanced into the title game despite an opening round 4-0 loss to Pittsburg.
Sean Goostree doubled and scored on Josh Steward's single to give Monett a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Carl Junction forged a 2-1 lead when Dalton Cloven's RBI double plated both Pitman and Hatfield in the second inning.
Monett scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh frame to take the lead. Ben Makela earned a leadoff walk, and both he and Jordan Savage scored off a Garron Cantrell single.

Goostree earned the win in relief of Makela. After Makela struck out nine in five innings of work, Goostree came on to blank the Carl Junction offense over the last two innings. Goostree struck out two and did not allow a baserunner while protecting the one-run lead.
Cloven pitched the entire game and took the tough loss for Post #781.
