Empire District Electric Company recently announced the donation of two tracts of land to worthy organizations in the Pierce City area.
The first donation of 1.16 acres, near the company's Pierce City service center, went to the Pierce City Rural Fire Department. The donation will allow the department to enhance firefighter safety and provide room for future expansion.
The second donation is a 0.3 parcel to St. Mary's Catholic Church. The area will provide additional space for many local community events and associated parking.
"With these donations, we are proud to help provide the opportunity for enhanced services and community improvements for our customers in Pierce City," said Martin Penning, vice president of commercial operations.
The deeds for the donated lands were presented on June 7.
