Alderman resigns Verona council seat

Friday, June 15, 2012

Verona alderman and mayor pro tem George Strawn submitted his resignation to the city council on June 13, stating it was "effective immediately."

The move comes on the heels of the resignation of former Verona Mayor Lloyd Airrington, who tendered his resignation on May 23.

Alderman Matt Pruente also tendered his resignation from the board on May.

That left Verona council members in the position of appointing Alderman Willis Hutson to fill the mayor's seat and appointing former alderman, Sheila Massengill, to fill Willis' position on the board.

One council seat remains vacant on the board of aldermen and City Clerk Julie Ruscha said Hutson hopes to have the slot filled by the next meeting, scheduled for May 26.

"That's our hope, anyway," Ruscha said.

Massengill, who was approved to fill Hutson's seat on the board, was given the oath of office prior to the meeting.
