Monett house fire ruled arson

Monday, June 11, 2012

A house fire that occurred on Thursday in the 300 block of Hazel Street in Monett has been ruled arson.

Monett Fire Chief Tom Jones said the call came in at 9:26 p.m. Thursday night and crews responded to 335 Hazel St. to find the home engulfed in flames.

Crews were on scene for nearly four and a half hours.

Officials with the Monett Police Department and the Missouri State Fire Marshal's Office investigated the blaze.

A resident of the home, Melinda Wecker, 43, of Monett, has been arrested in connection with fire. The house was completely destroyed.

Firefighters were also called out to fight an industrial blaze that occurred at 9:47 a.m. on Friday at the EFCO Corporation, located at 1000 County Rd.

The fire broke out in the paint booth inside the plant, and all employees at the main plant were safely evacuated and accounted for.

"The sprinkler system actually put out the fire in all but a few hot spots," Jones said.

The north end of the facility sustained significant water and smoke damage, according to Jones.
