This year's Red, White and Boom, is planned to be the biggest and best ever, in celebration of the 10th anniversary of the event. Red, White & BOOM will be held on Friday, June 29 at the Spirit of 76 Park in Mt. Vernon. The theme is "10th Year...A BOOM to Remember!"
Red, White and BOOM is funded through sponsorships and sales at the food tent. The event does not receive any funding from the City of Mt. Vernon or any other source.
Events begin at 6:45 p.m., with the singing of the National Anthem. All veterans are asked to gather in front of the stage or stand to be honored at that time. Entertainment will be provided by 65 South.
This year's fireworks display will be the largest display to date and will feature more American custom-made fireworks. The display will begin immediately following the entertainment. In the event of rain, fireworks will be held on June 30. Admission and parking are free.
The food tent will open at 6:30 pm, with concessions, glow necklaces, blinking necklaces and rings for purchase. All proceeds from the food tent will be used to help cover the cost of the event.
A free admission swim will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Spirit of 76 Park pool. This year, there will be free laser tags from 6 to 8 p.m. The Missouri National Guard will also sponsor free activities and provide the color guard again this year. Concession stand and National Guard activities will close when fireworks begin.
The event is free and open to the public. Bring your lawn chairs. Handicapped parking will be provided at the John Taylor Senior Center lot. A handicapped parking permit is required for handicapped parking. Signs will be posted. Handicapped shuttle will be available from the "Flag" area in front of the stage to the John Taylor parking lot only. Shuttle will stop running at 8:30 p.m., and will begin again after the fireworks. No pets, personal fireworks or alcohol is allowed. VIP Parking by permit only and closes at 8:30 pm.
