The New Liberty Methodist Church will have its 16th annual Ice Cream Social from 4 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, June 9. Grilled food and homemade ice cream will be available, along with live gospel music. Attendees should bring lawn chairs. The church is located on Kings Prairie, two miles east of Monett, and south on Highway Z one mile.

The Monett Special Road District commissioners will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday, June 11, at Monett City Hall.

The annual Wheaton barbecue has been moved to Saturday, Aug. 25.

The annual Kings Prairie music concert will be Aug. 11.

A new free service allows the public to access book, microfilm and manuscript collections held by the Missouri State Historical Society for free. Requested material will be delivered on the fourth Wednesday of the month to the Duane Meyer Library at Missouri State University for free. Fees for copying and scanning material will still apply. Alcoholics Anonymous meets in Monett at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, located at 405 Seventh St, at 7 p.m. on Sunday, 8 p.m. on Wednesday and 8 p.m. on Friday. For more information, call 236-0216 or 235-8147.

Collections for Shoeboxes for Soldiers are continuing until Saturday, June 9, for delivery by July 4. Collection points are UMB Bank, First State Bank and the National Guard Armories in Pierce City and Monett. Cost is $13 to ship a Priority Mail flat rate box. Recommended gifts include healthcare items, non-perishable snacks, DVDs and recorded music. For more information, call 417-389-0517.

Flowers will be removed from graves at the Monett IOOF, Oakdale and Cox cemeteries on Monday, June 11, for mowing. Please pick up flowers by Sunday, June 10.

There will be an informational meeting for girls soccer on Thursday, June 7 at 7 p.m. at Monett High School.

A CPR/First Aid course will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 9 at the Monett Justice Center, 1901 E. Cleveland. The course is approved by the American Heart Association and is recommended for teens babysitting. Participation is limited to 20 people. To reserve a seat, call 417-489-4554 or 393-0713.

Verona Sacred Heart Summerfest will be held from 5 to 10 p.m. on June 9 at the corner of Second Street and Adams. The event will feature food, games, live entertainment, and drawings for $2,000 worth of prizes.

The Pierce City Fishing Derby will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, June 9, at the Pierce City South Park Lake for children ages 15 and under. Prizes will be awarded. The event is sponsored by the Pierce City Rural Fire Department.
