Search warrant served at Aurora convenience store

Monday, June 4, 2012

The Aurora Police Department, Combined Ozarks Multi-jurisdictional Drug Task Force Enforcement Team (COMET) and the Lawrence County Sheriff's Office served a search warrant on Tuesday, May 22, at an Aurora convenience store.

A combined investigation effort was initiated following multiple complaints concerning possible illegal activity at the Next Stop #4, located on Elliott Street. That investigation resulted in a search warrant being issued and served on Tuesday morning.

"We were able to serve the search warrant and shut down the store temporarily," said Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay. "The business owner was not there, but we were able to interview some of the employees."

Items removed from the store included four electronic gambling machines and several packages of what is believed to be imitation controlled substances.

"Pending test results on the imitation controlled substances, charges will be filed accordingly," DeLay said. "All in all, it was a pretty simple search and everything went without a hitch."

No arrests have been made at this time but the investigation continues into the matter.
