Crime Stoppers tips slow in May

Thursday, May 31, 2012

Monett Police Chief Tim Schweder reported tips were slow to come in to the Barry-Lawrence Chapter of Crime Stoppers tip line in the month of May.

That information was presented at the regular meeting of the local Crime Stoppers board on May 22.

"That's both good and bad," Schweder said. "Good that crimes in the area are down, but bad that the tip line wasn't as busy as previous months."

Lt. Dave Haskins, of the Monett Police Department, reported law enforcement officials were seeking information on the person or persons responsible for the theft and burning of a 1995 light blue Buick Century from the 1500 block of Admiral either late Saturday or early Sunday.

The vehicle was found burned outside the Monett city limits on Sunday.

Haskins said law enforcement officials are also seeking the whereabouts of a man wanted in connection for felony stealing and burglary.

A warrant has been issued by the Monett Police Department for Michael Nguyen, 28, who is known to frequent the area.

The Barry-Lawrence Chapter of Crime Stoppers offers rewards of up to $1,000 for tips that lead to the arrest of those wanted for felony crimes. Tips may be submitted by calling 354-TIPS (8477) or toll-free at 1-888-635-TIPS (8477). Tipsters may remain anonymous.

Tips may also be submitted through the Barry-Lawrence Crime Stoppers website at www.blcrimestoppers.com. Web-based tips are ineligible for a reward.
