Relay for Life in Aurora June 1

Final preparations for Lawrence County Relay For Life, the annual fundraiser for the American Cancer Society, will be held on Friday, June 1, in Aurora. The event will take place at Kelley Field, beginning at 7 p.m.

"Let's Celebrate" is the Relay theme. A basket auction begins around 8 p.m. The 31 items include quilting and scrapbooking baskets, gift cards, an outdoor chair and table plus birdhouse made by Jerry Reavis,

There will also be food, games for the kids and celebration.

"Our survivor lap will kick off at 7 p.m.," said committee member Lynda Painter. "A Lady Gaga impersonation contest, Zumba, lots of fun and games will continue until 7 a.m. on Saturday, June 2. Our special luminaria ceremony will begin at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Friday with a candlelight vigil to follow."

The Relay is a free event. The public is welcome to bring lawn chair, celebrate survivors, remember those taken in the battle against cancer and fight back to end cancer. For more information, call Painter at 235-9803.
