Members of Purdy High School FBLA-PBL participated in Rooting for Joplin, a planting effort to replace the 12,000 trees lost during the May 22, 2011, tornado. The Purdy group, which planted a total of six trees at two homes, is pictured above. From left, are: Jayse Henderson, Jackie Hughes and Jessica Ball.
Members of Missouri FBLA-PBL teamed up for a "feet-on-the-ground" effort to replace approximately 12,000 trees lost in the devastation of the Joplin tornado on May 22, 2011.

On May 5, more than 900 volunteers helped to plant 1,200 trees, replenishing 10 percent of the trees in just one day. To accomplish this extraordinary feat, more than $25,000 was donated over the course of eight months.

In addition to planting trees, FBLA and PBL officers presented a check for $5,000, which was presented to Dr. C.J. Huff, superintendent of Joplin Schools, for landscaping needs at the new high school.
