Sheltered workshop offering portion of building for lease

Wednesday, May 16, 2012

A portion of the building that now houses the Monett Area Extended Employment (Sheltered) Workshop is now available for lease.

The Workshop previously leased 15,702 square feet of factory space at its main facility, located at 204 S. Central in Monett, to EFCO Corporation. Having spread its own operations into the space in recent years, the Workshop Board decided to make 8,917 square feet of factory space available. Director Mica Plummer said interested parties should contact the Workshop at 235-3191 to arrange a time to view the space.

Beginning May 14, the board decided to pay 50 cents per pound for aluminum cans. Books, newspapers and cardboard are also accepted at both the Central and 1203 E. Broadway location. Bins at the Broadway site are open for deposits at any time.

Plummer said the Workshop also serves as a recycling center for fluorescent bulbs. These bulbs can be taken to the Central location, and a certificate of recycling is issued with each transaction. Prices for recycling bulbs are available by calling 235-3191.

Plummer reported April was a strong month for business at the Workshop.

"We are hoping for continued support from the community, so we can keep all our employees with disabilities busy working," Plummer said.
