Two aldermen were sworn in at Verona City Council's April meeting.
George Strawn and Matt Pruente took the oath of office during the April meeting of the Verona City Council.
Aldermen reviewed bids to finish improvements on an unused room at City Hall.
Aldermen approved a bid from Heller Heat and Air to install two heat runs with fire dampers for the room, which will be used as the fire department's office, at a cost of $694.50.
The electrical bid was discussed and tabled until a materials list could be compiled.
Aldermen also reviewed clean-up and tax liens on properties located at 584 Browning and at 256 N. Third St.
The concensus of the council was to have the city maintenance employee, Rick Wright, mow and clean the property at 584 Browning, adding the costs to an existing tax lien in the amount of $604.
Aldermen postponed making a decision on the property at 256 N. Third St., allowing code enforcement officials time to determine who the owner is and make contact concerning the violations.
City Clerk Julie Ruscha will be mailing out notices of code violations with city utility bills in the coming weeks, reminding residents to keep their lawns mowed.
In his report to the board, Bert Bond told aldermen both return pumps were down at the wastewater treatment facility. He has contacted Independent Electric to determine the cost of repairing the pumps.
Bond also told aldermen he had been looking through the report from Ace Pipe Cleaning and would prepare a list of estimates for major repairs for the May meeting.
Police Chief Mike Moore reported 14 calls for service in his first month in office, along with eight warnings and 31 citations issued.
Moore also reported numerous dogs have been removed or dispersed from a property on Browning Street.
Willis Hudson reported three fire department volunteers had signed up for an upcoming first responder course, offered by Mercy Health, at the Mt. Vernon Fire station.
In personnel, aldermen voted to terminate the employment of Patrolman Scott Tidyman and hire Chris Hutson as a part-time officer.
