The annual Kids Fishing Derby, sponsored by the Monett Sportsmen's League, will be held from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 12, at Monett City Park Lake. Children 15 and under can participate. Bait will be provided and cash prizes. Lunch will be served after the derby.

The 50th annual G.W. Gunter Memorial Muzzle Loaders matches will be held from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 12, and 8 a.m. to noon on Sunday, May 13, The shooting range is located northwest of Monett, north of Business Highway 60 on Highway W to Farm Road 2230, and west a quarter mile. The Monett High School honors assembly will be held at 7 p.m. on Monday, May 14, in the high school commons.

The Monett High School band will present a spring concert at 8 p.m. at the Fine Arts Night on Saturday, May 12, at the high school gymnasium.

VFW Post #4207 Ladies Auxiliary will host a luncheon on Wednesday, May 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The meal will include turkey with dressing, mashed potatoes with gravy, seasoned carrots, salads, dessert and beverage. Cost is $6. The Post is located west of Monett on Highway 60.

A retirement reception of Purdy R-2 School District Superintendent Jerry Lingo and elementary school music teacher Sharon Vaughn will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, May 16 at the school cafeteria. The public is welcome.

The Monett Special Road District commissioners will meet at 5 p.m. on Monday, May 14, at the Monett City Hall conference room.

Repairs to the damaged overhead trusses on the Shell Knob bridge, on Route 39 at Table Rock Lake are scheduled to begin Monday, May 14, according to the Missouri Department of Transportation. The repairs are expected to be completed by May 24. Drivers can expect one-lane traffic across the bridge where crews are working.

Art Hains, Missouri State University radio broadcaster, will be the guest speaker at the quarterly night meeting of the Monett Kiwanis Club. The event will be held at 7 p.m. on May 15 at Big Baldy's in Monett. The public is invited to attend and the cost will be $10 per person.

Flags are to be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, May 15, for Police Officers Memorial Day, reports Hobbs-Anderson American Legion Post #91 in Monett.
