Leesa Ginther, with the Barry County Health Department, and Richard Huennekens, an employee of Old Town Pharmacy, were in Monett on Saturday taking part in the national Drug Take Back Day. Area residents dropped off both prescription and over-the-counter medications that were no longer needed or out-of-date. According to Monett Police Chief Tim Schweder, the take back effort netted over 50 pounds of medications that will be turned over the the Drug Enforcement Agency for disposal. The statewide total of drugs received in the take back effort was 20,529 pounds.
