Eugene H. Terry, 90, of Springfield, Mo., passed away at his home in Springfield on Monday, April 30, 2012. He was born on Sept. 9, 1921 in East Purdy, the son of the later Homer and Mellie (Burg) Terry.
He was united in marriage on June 30, 1946 in Purdy, Mo. to Jesselyn Courdin. She survives.
He was a graduate of Purdy High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the Army, serving from 1939 to 1944. In June of 1946, he married Jesselyn Courdin and they began life together on a farm near Exeter.
Three daughters and one son were born and raised on that farm. Gene was employed as postmaster in Exeter for several years. They lived on their farm for 42 years prior to moving to Springfield in 1988.
Gene is survived by his wife and life's partner of nearly 66 years, Jesselyn Courdin; three daughters, Connie Koetting, husband John, Overland Park, Kan., Janet Southard, husband, Ken, Springfield, Mo., and Renee Misner, husband, Paul, Overland Park, Kan.; one son, Randall Terry, wife, Brenda, Springfield, Mo.; five grandchildren, Kara Wilson, husband, Terry, Justin Koetting, Kristopher Southard, wife Terri, Jeffrey Koetting, and Susan Simpson, husband, Tim; two great-grandsons, Sean and Conner Wilson; and one brother, Jed Terry, wife, Norma, Springfield, Mo. and Purdy.
He is preceded in death by both his parents: Homer and Mellie; five brothers, Charles, Famous, Fulton, Ward, and Ed Terry; and three sisters: Lucille (Bullock), Louise Terry, and Maxine Terry.
Visitation will be held Friday May 4, 2012 from 1 to 2 p.m. with services to follow visitation at 2 p.m. at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Mo. Burial will follow services at Arnhart Cemetery in Purdy, Mo.
Memorial donations for Gene may be made to Arnhart Cemetery or Mercy Hospice in Springfield, Mo.
