A prayer breakfast, in observance of National Day of Prayer, will be held from 7 to 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 3 at the Monett South Park Casino. Gary Shaw, Joplin City Council member, will be the speaker. A complimentary breakfast will be served by Monett Kiwanis Club. The Monett City Council will hold two sessions on May 1 in the city hall conference room. At 8:30 a.m., council members will hold a non-action work session to review regulations relating to railroad quiet zones and an engineering services contract. At 10 a.m., council members will meet in open session to act on a change order with Southard Construction and purchase equipment for the Windmill Ridge Golf Course. A closed session for discussion of purchasing real estate is also scheduled.
Dr. Saba Habis, a geriatric doctor, will speak at noon on Friday, May 4, at the Monett Senior Citizens Center, on the topic of "Are your doctor visits getting shorter?" Dr. Habis will provide information on how to get better answers from physicians and will review prescriptions and over-the-counter medicines taken by patients.
The Monett VFW Post #4207 Ladies Auxiliary will host a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2 at the Post located west of Monett on Highway 60. The menu will include spaghetti with meat sauce, corn, garlic bread, salad, dessert, tea or coffee. The cost is $6.
The annual Pierce City Community Banquet will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 5 at the Pierce City Senior Citizens Center, located at 104 N. Locust.
