Eleanor Smidt

Eleanor K. Smidt, age 94, of Freistatt, Mo., departed this life at 8:17 p.m. on Friday, April 27, 2012 at the Lawrence County Manor in Mt. Vernon, Mo.

Eleanor was born on Nov. 20, 1917 in Pender, Neb., one of 11 children born to Hans Simonsen and Lena (Tonjes) Simonsen. Eleanor was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt where she was involved in the Lutheran Braille Workers and L.W.M.L. "Ladies Aid." She was also a member of the Freistatt Friendship Club and the Senior Citizens Center.

Eleanor married Harry Smidt on June 10, 1941 in Freemont, Neb. He preceded her in death on March 26, 1991. Also preceding her in death were her parents, Hans and Lena Simonsen, five brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by one daughter, Deborah Burnett and her husband, Steve, of Wentworth, Mo.; one granddaughter, Jennie Holstein and John Brown, of Springfield, La.; and two sisters, Ardyce Carlsten and her husband, Kenneth, of Pender, Neb., and Carole McPherson, of Kansas City, Mo.

Funeral services for Mrs. Smidt will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, 2012 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Freistatt. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the service in the chapel. Interment will be in the Trinity Lutheran Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to the Lutheran Braille Workers in care of the funeral home.
