Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps, (JROTC) cadet Daniel McVay, a senior at Monett High School, received an invitation to compete in the national JROTC championships in Camp Perry, Ohio. "It's a long road, both literally and figuratively," said Lt. Col. Maella Lohman, JROTC instructor at the Southwest Area Career Center in Monett. "To be selected means hours of practice and local competitions. The scores from the Army Postal competition are the key to receiving an invitation." Todd Borgmann, Monett Middle School band instructor, accompanied McVay as an escort. McVay competed against 179 of the finest shooters from across America. "It was an amazing experience," said McVay. "I will never forget it." The JROTC rifle team has been notified that they were selected to compete at the state level in the American Legion postal competition.
