A meeting in Spanish with Hispanic business leaders was held last night at Plaza Mexico in Monett as part of the Monett Main Street effort. Norma Ramirez de Miess, a senior program officer for the National Trust for Historic Presentation Main Street Center in Washington, D.C., led the meeting to enlist the participation of the Hispanic community to the Main Street downtown revitalization program. She gave a 40-minute presentation on the purpose and approach of Main Street, which City Administrator Dennis Pyle described as a long-term approach to economic revitalization. At center are Ramirez de Miess and Mayor Jim Orr, who said it was exciting to have Hispanics participating in the downtown effort. Several members of the Main Street board, including Sharon Garrett, president, at far right, attended the meeting, which was followed by informal conversation about bringing and sustaining business to the historic center of the community.
