A prayer breakfast, in observance of National Day of Prayer, will be held from 7 to 8 a.m. on Thursday, May 3 at the Monett South Park Casino. Gary Shaw, Joplin City Council member, will be the speaker. A complimentary breakfast will be served by Monett Kiwanis Club. The event is sponsored by the Monett Chamber of Commerce and the Monett Ministerial Association. The Monett Purdy Affiliate of Habitat for Humanity will hold a ground breaking ceremony for the sixth house at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 5. The event will be held at the 100 block of E. Nellie in Monett. The public is invited and refreshments will be served.

Shoe Roads Productions, a division of Laurie's Shoes, will be at Cox Monett Hospital from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 1 in the hospital's main lobby. A wide variety of shoes will be offered at the sale, including Klogs, Dansko, Alegria, Sanita and Birkenstock. All proceeds will benefit the auxiliary's healthcare scholarship fund. Barry County Youth Camp is currently accepting donations for shoes, swim suits, shorts and tops for children, ages 7 to 10. Donations can be dropped off at Bremer Machine Shop in Monett, located at 202 Seventh St. or call 235-3211 or 235-3929.

The Monett FFA will hold an agriculture greenhouse sale from 3 to 6 p.m. on Friday, May 11 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 12 at the agriculture greenhouse located at the Southwest Area Career Center. For more information, call Tamra Sunby at 235-7022 or e-mail tsunby@monett.k12.mo.us.

The Pierce City High School Senior Citizen prom will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. on Sunday, April 29 at the school cafeteria. Fred Lacy and the Matadors will provide the entertainment. The public is invited to attend. Refreshments will be provided by the high school National Honor Society.

The Monett VFW Post #4207 Ladies Auxiliary will host a luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, May 2 at the Post located west of Monett on Highway 60. The menu will include spaghetti with meat sauce, corn, garlic bread, salad, dessert, tea or coffee. The cost is $6.

The Verona FFA plant sale will continue weekday sales from 7:40 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through May 11 and from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, May 12 at the Verona High School greenhouse. For more information, call Joe Moore at 417-366-3838.
