The sun was shining, but Mother Nature still made her presence felt with large wind gusts during the Class 3, District 6 golf tournament at Honey Creek golf course in Aurora on Tuesday.

Despite the difficult playing conditions, the Monett Cubs golf team advanced to the sectional round next Wednesday at Briar Brook in Carl Junction.

"I am proud of the way the boys battled today," said Monett head coach Derrek Uhl. "The most important thing for us is that the team advanced, and we still have more golf to play."

Logan-Rogersville won the team event, recording a 332. Monett came in seven strokes behind with a 339 for second place, and Republic took third, finishing with a 345.

Only the top two teams and top 15 individuals advanced to the sectional tournament.

Monett's Jacob Fair shared tournament medalist honors with Logan-Rogersville's Alec Palen. Both golfers recorded a three-over-par 74.

"The wind was brutal today," said Fair. "It wasn't bad when we started our round this morning. It just got progressively worse throughout the day."

Fair was at one-under-par when he teed off on the 16th hole and began battling the wind. He bogeyed the 16th and 17th and double-bogeyed the 18th hole.

"I really played a solid round until I made the turn at 15," said Fair. "I made things worse a couple of times by trying to play the wind, but when the wind gust stops when you hit your shot, you get into trouble. That's just the game of golf. You move on and focus on what's ahead."

Results for the Cubs were as follows: Travis Thompson, 88; Garrett Craig, 88; Tyler Webb, 89; and Bryan Beckwith, 97.

Cassville's Evan White, Parker Skinner and Cody Stehlik also qualified for sectionals.

Fair and White earned All-District honors.

Sectional flights are set to tee off at 9 a.m.
