A total of 325 people participated in the second annual Doug Weatherly 5K Pride Run in Pierce City on Saturday, helping to raise money for the Doug Weatherly Scholarship Memorial Fund. Last year, the fund provided three scholarships in honor of Weatherly, a Monett resident and Pierce City coach who died on Dec. 13, 2010, of a heart attack. Money from the fund was also used to purchase new speakers for the Pierce City football stadium, where Weatherly served as a popular football coach. The program opened with a message from Joni Weatherly, Doug's widow, and the National Anthem, sung by Doug's daughter, Breann. The run began and ended at the football stadium.
