SWACC's Norman named Missouri State SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year

Ed Norman, pictured at left, was named as Missouri's SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year. The plaque was presented to him by Tyler Lowery, of Purdy, state SkillsUSA vice president, of the diesel program, pictured at right.
SkillsUSA state contests were held at Linn State Technical Center in Jefferson City. The Southwest Area Career Center in Monett had 41 students who qualified to compete in state contests.

Ed Norman, SWACC welding instructor, was named the Missouri State SkillsUSA Advisor of the Year during the opening ceremony. Norman has been active in SkillsUSA at the local, state and national levels. His program has proven to be competitive in many aspects of the SkillsUSA program, such as the community service projects. Norman has been the five-year leading contributor of the canned food drive at SWACC.

SWACC received a plaque for every student giving 100 percent participation in SkillsUSA and for chapter quality program, which is a new program created to reward the schools that strive to follow the total content of SkillsUSA. SWACC received the bronze level of a quality program.

Individual medalists were: Laura Lopez, junior, of Cassville, third, advertising design technical information; Tyler Lowery, senior, of Purdy, first, diesel technical information contest, and third, diesel equipment skilled contest; Tarek Masri, freshman, of Monett, first, extemporaneous speaking, which qualified him for national contests in June; Emma Verstrate, senior, of Monett, second, medical math contest; and Austin Nickell, senior, of Aurora, second, welding skilled contest.
