He was born on June 9, 1945, in Wheaton, Mo., the son of Champ and Kate (McNeill) Marney.
On April 9, 1966, he was united in marriage to Linda Hailey, who survives. Also surviving are two sons, Travis Marney, of Rocky Comfort, Mo. and Neil Marney and his wife, Amanda, of Monett, Mo.; one daughter, Missy Caldwell and her husband, David, of Monett, Mo.; two brothers, John Marney and his wife, Jean, of Exeter, Mo. and Dale Marney and his wife, Ava, of Humbolt, Kan.; one sister, Shirlene DeSpain, of Wheaton, Mo.; five grandchildren, Paige Marney, Tanner Marney, Cooper Caldwell, Crayton Caldwell and Zach Caldwell and one great-grandchild, Gavin Caldwell.
Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Betty Haufler.
J.R., as most people knew him, grew up and received his education at Rocky Comfort, where he graduated from high school. For several years he owned and operated Wheaton Frozen Food and was a sub-mail carrier at Rocky Comfort. He also farmed and lived in and around McDonald County his entire life. One of his favorite pastimes was attending ball games and he thoroughly enjoyed his horses. He was a long-time member of Wheaton Saddle Club.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 19, 2012, in McQueen Funeral Home, Wheaton. Pastor Paul Wahlert conducted the services. Burial was in Rocky Comfort Cemetery.
