Frances J. Hicks, age 88, of Champaign, Ill., formerly of Monett, died at 3:45 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, 2012 at Illini Heritage Rehab and Health Care in Champaign.
|Mrs. Hicks was born on Dec. 19, 1923 in Ft. Scott, Kan., the daughter of James C. and Lucetta Lee (King) Harrison. She married William Wallace Hicks, Jr. on Nov. 29, 1941 and he preceded her in death on June 29, 2004. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Lucetta A. Thompson; parents, a brother and a sister.||She is survived by a daughter, Mary J. Toombs, of Marble Hill, Mo.; sons, William W. Hicks, III, of Riverdale, Ga., Stanley W. Hicks and Richard W. Hicks, both of Urbana, Ill.; a brother, David S. Harrison, of Overland Park, Kan.; 17 grandchildren; five great- grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.|
Mrs. Hicks was a waitress and a homemaker. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters and served as Eucharistic Minister at the church. She liked crochet, knitting, crafts and puzzles. She loved serving her Lord.
A funeral Mass will be on Thursday, April 19 at 10 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, 405 W. Clark St, Champaign, Ill. Father Steven Willard will officiate. Private burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery. Frances will be interred with her late husband, William.
