A pair of bold thieves stole a historic 1938 military uniform, and information about the man who wore it, from the Lawrence County Courthouse in Mt. Vernon last Friday afternoon.

"The items were taken from a historic display at the courthouse," said Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay. "The thieves also took an extra-wide 1918 Liberty Loan framed photo from the display."

The items were taken between 2:30 and 3:45 p.m. on Friday. Witnesses say two people may be involved.

The first suspect is a dark-haired man described as being in his mid- to late 30s, around five feet, 10 inches in height. The second suspect is a girl who appears to be in her late teens with long, medium-brown hair with a bleached streak running through it.

Anyone having information on the matter is asked to contact the Mt. Vernon Police Department at 417-466-2131 or 417-466-2122 or Kathy Fairchild with the Lawrence County Historical Society at 417-466-2185 or via e-mail at lchs@mo-net.com.
