The Exeter Junior High School seventh grade academic team won the inaugural Ozark 7 Conference Middle School Academic Team Tournament held at Southwest Middle School on Feb. 29.

Members of Exeter's seventh grade team include: Hilsden Moseley, Mikayla Meyer, Brooke Baldwin, Lindsey Henson and Trey Rowden.

Thomas Jefferson took first place in the eighth grade academic team competition. The team included: Noah Wells, Joe Scott, Noah Chatrow and Noah Dickinson.

"Exeter and Thomas Jefferson played three times and Exeter won two," said Steve Voyak, who serves as the Southwest Middle School academic teach coach and helped organize the tournament. "All three games were close and tense. The kids on both sides really stepped up."

Exeter's seventh grade edged out Thomas Jefferson with a final score of 220 to 180.

"It was fun, educational and highly competitive," said Voyak. "I think it will turn into an annual competition. I think everybody was pleased with the results."

The students who answered the most questions were named to an All-Tournament team.

Eighth grade students who earned honors were: Renz Kho, from Exeter; Spencer Shue, from Verona; Noah Wells, from Thomas Jefferson; and Alex Jimenez and Savana Leonhard, both from Southwest.

Seventh grade students named to the All-Tournament team included: Liz Moore, from Purdy; Hilsden Moseley and Brooke Baldwin, both from Exeter; and Pranav Suri and Joey Coscar, both from Thomas Jefferson.
