He was the retired president of First State Bank in Purdy and a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, Stones Prairie in Purdy, Mo., where he was in the church men's club. Gene also served in the Army during the Korean War.
Gene is survived by his fiancée, Loraine Staponski, Purdy; nine nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both his parents: John and Anna, and five sisters: Verna Mae Nations, Elma Meister, Marzella Hemmerling, Mildred Lilleoien, and Dorothy Miller.
Visitation will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 11, 2012 at Bennett-Wormington Funeral Home in Monett, Mo. Funeral services will be held on Thursday April 12, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church on Stones Prairie in Purdy, Mo. with Pastor Phillip Wolfe officiating. Burial will follow services at the church cemetery.
