Monett golf team gains momentum with top finishes

The Monett Cubs' golf season is in full swing. The Cubs have started to roar on area links.

On Thursday, Monett took second in the 14-team Cassville Invitational.

Republic won the team title, shooting a 330. The Cubs finished with a 343, and Carl Junction took third with a 345.

"It was a beautiful day, and the kids played well," said Monett golf coach Derrek Uhl. "I think we are building some confidence as the season progresses."

Republic's Dylan Beckemeier was the tournament medalist, finishing with an even-par 72. Monett's Jacob Fair was second overall, shooting a one-over-par 73.

The Cubs' Travis Thompson recorded a 84. Garrett Craig tallied a 92. Tyler Webb carded a 94, and Bryan Beckwith turned in a 105.

SPS Golf Tournament

On Monday, the Cubs finished third in the Springfield Public Schools Golf Tournament at Hickory Hills. The Cubs finished third in the 14-team tournament on the par-72 course.

Fair was the tournament medalist with a two-under-par 70. Fair finished the round five strokes in front of second place Taylor Dade, of Kickapoo.

Glendale won the team event with a 328. West Plains finished second with a 330, and Monett completed the afternoon with a 333.

"I had been struggling with my short game," said Fair. "I have really put some time and effort into fixing the problems. The scorecard is starting to show that my efforts are paying off."

Results for Monett golfers were as follows: Thompson, 83; Craig, 88; Webb, 92; and Beckwith, 95.

"I am very happy how we competed as a team today," said Uhl. "We finished better than anyone in our district. I hope this gives us confidence when we compete for the district title in a couple weeks."

The Cubs hit the links Thursday at Aurora. Flights tee off at 9 a.m.
