Monett handles Lamar, earns 5-4 win

The Monett Cubs baseball team picked up a 5-4 victory over Lamar on Thursday in the Carthage Tournament.

Nicky Roberts and Jackson Burnside each doubled for Monett.

The Cubs scored single runs in the first inning, fourth and fifth innings and two runs in the second inning.

Lamar plated a pair of runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Nick Childress earned the victory on the mound. Childress pitched six and one-third innings, allowed seven hits and struck out one. Blake Spain earned the save.

Monett entertains Mt. Vernon on Tuesday. The game is slated to start at 4:30 p.m.

Big innings carry PC Eagles over Miller

Three runs in the second inning and five runs in the fifth inning lifted the Pierce City Eagle to an 11-1 victory over Miller Thursday night.

Kole Kelly collected three hits and three RBI to lead the Eagles. Bo Vincent had three hits. Garron Cantrell had two hits and two RBI.

Vincent earned the victory on the mound. He pitched three and one-third innings, allowed one hit, one earned run and struck out six. Colin Garner pitched one and two-thirds innings in relief and allowed one hit and struck out one.

The Eagles improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Spring River Conference play.

Pierce City hosts College Heights on Monday. First pitch is set for 4:30 p.m.

Purdy falls to Conway

The Purdy Eagles fell 4-1 to the Conway Bears in a battle of state ranked baseball teams Thursday night.

Conway led 1-0 after two innings of play. Purdy tied the game 1-1 in the sixth inning only to see the Bears rally for three runs in the bottom of the sixth.

Cody Hall and Keevin Walker each doubled for Purdy.

The Eagles (7-2) travel to Southwest on Monday. First pitch is set for 5 p.m.
