LawCo participates in state campaign

Monday, April 9, 2012

The Lawrence County Sheriff's Office recently participated in the statewide youth seat belt enforcement campaign that resulted in officers issuing a total of 28 traffic tickets.

Of those tickets, seven were for seat belt violations, eight were for speeding violations and 13 were for other traffic violations.

One felony arrest and one drug arrest were also made as a result of the crackdown.

"Seat belts are the single best defense in a crash," said Lawrence County Sheriff Brad DeLay. "Law enforcement will continue to encourage drivers to make a simple, smart choice to buckle up and arrive alive."

Despite evidence proving the benefits of wearing a seat belt, approximately 33 percent of teens do not buckle up. Eight out of 10 Missouri teens killed in traffic crashes were not wearing a seat belt.

"Buckle up and arrive alive," DeLay said.
