Former Monettan Thomas D. Plopper died in the Lawrence County Jail on Friday as the result of an apparent suicide.
Plopper, 41, was being held on a charge of second degree robbery. According to a statement released by Sheriff Brad DeLay, Plopper was discovered not breathing in his cell around 2 p.m. on Friday by an on-duty jailer in the process of assigning another inmate to a cell.
Medical personnel were called to the scene. Efforts to revive Plopper were unsuccessful.
The cause and circumstances of the death remain under investigation.
