JROTC competes in events

The Southwest Area Career Center JROTC competed in three events.

The Nevada drill competition was held on Jan. 21. The unarmed exhibition took second place with Dani Scaggs from Marionville High School as the captain. Nicolas James and Anthony Benavidez from Monett High School won individual medallions in the dual armed exhibition.

The Webb City rifle and drill competition was held on Feb. 25. Every team placed and brought home trophies. The color guard, commanded by Mitchell Cooper, of Cassville, placed fourth. The unarmed regulation drill commanded by Kendal Cooper, of Cassville, placed second, the armed regulation drill, commanded by Nicolas James, of Monett, placed fifth, the unarmed exhibition, commanded by Dani Scaggs, of Marionville, placed second, armed exhibition, commanded by Levi Boxley, of Cassville, placed third, and the marksmanship team took second place in both new shooter and experienced shooter with Wyatt Burton, of Monett as captain.

Matthew Kelly, of Monett, received a medallion for his performance in individual exhibition. Anthony Benavidez and Nicholas James, both of Monett, received medallions for their performance in dual exhibition.

The Blue Springs drill competition was held on March 3. The color guard commanded by Mitchell Cooper, of Cassville, placed third.

The American Legion postal team of Wyatt Burton and Daniel McVay, both of Monett, George Gottsleben, of Marionville, and Kendal Cooper, of Cassville, placed third in regional competition and advanced to state where the results are pending.

Tarek Masri, of Monett, took first place in new shooter individual level and advanced to state in individual competition. The results are pending.
