High speed chase ends in arrest

Friday, April 6, 2012

Sheriff Mick Epperly has announced that Barry County Officers, Monett Police Department and the Missouri State Highway Patrol were involved in a high-speed car chase yesterday that ended with the suspect wrecking the vehicle he was driving.

According to Sheriff Epperly, three vehicles were stolen from the Purdy area overnight. The first stolen vehicle was a Dodge flatbed that was taken to another location in Purdy and abandoned. A second vehicle, a 1986 Oldsmobile, was stolen and also driven to another location in Purdy where it was abandoned. The suspect then stole a 1997 black Mustang.

Monett officers initiated a pursuit of the Mustang at which time the driver rammed into two Monett patrol vehicles, causing minor damage.

The pursuit then continued onto Farm Road 1050 off of Highway 60.

The driver eventually wrecked the Mustang on Farm Road 2020 east of Farm Road 1050 when he ran off the road and hit a telephone pole.

Officers were able to take the driver, Cody Dobyns, 21, of Monett, into custody at that time. Dobyns has been charged with three counts of first degree tampering with a motor vehicle and one count of possession of a controlled substance.

Dobyns remains in custody at the Barry County Jail in lieu of a $25,000 cash or surety bond.
