The Monett Chapter of Bikers Against Dumb Drivers (BADD) recently celebrated one year of service and made plans for upcoming activities.

The BADD Cruisin' Crew was founded in 2007 by Rick and Jeanne Hart, of Springfield. The Springfield chapter has 17 members. The Monett chapter has10 members with Kevin Smith serving as president and Dave Shaner as vice president.

BADD is a family-oriented organization. Members ride with the Patriot Guard and veterans, supporting charities such as Toys for Tots, the Make A Wish Foundation, Adopt a Family for Christmas and breast cancer awareness.

A contingent from the Springfield chapter joined the Monett group for an anniversary dinner at the Family Room Steak House in Monett.

According to Shaner, the chapter will join the Patriot Guard for a ride to Topeka, Kan., on March 31.

Plans are underway for a ride in June to salute veterans and emergency responders who died in the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York City. The ride will go from Monett to Neosho, Joplin, Springfield and return to the Christopher Stark bench memorial at Monett's South Park.

"You will see more of us in upcoming rides this year to help charities and ride for veterans," Shaner said.
