Basketball players compete in All-Star game in Springfield

Friday, March 30, 2012

Josh Steward and Isaac Waddell earned All-Region Awards for their regular season play.

They were chosen from a team pool of hundreds of players from the Missouri, Oklahoma, Kansas and Arkansas.

Steward and Waddell were rewarded for their accomplishments by playing in an All-Star Game at Hammons Student Center in Springfield on Wednesday evening before a crowd of nearly 7,000 people. Both SCCHA seniors had outstanding national tournaments and were named to the All-Tournament team. Steward ended the five-game tournament with at total of 86 points. Waddell also earned an All-Tournament Christian Character award as voted by the coaches.

"It was the most amazing athletic event for this level of play that I have ever seen. I have been a player or coach for over 42 years," said Blazers coach Charlie Steward. "This is an event that you really have to see for yourself in order to believe it."

SCCHA's first season featured players from Barry, Lawrence, Newton and Greene counties and two players from Harrison, Ark. National Christian Homeschool Basketball Association rules allow for teams to have players as long as they are within 100 miles of their home base. SCCHA's home court was the Family Life Center in Cassville.

Varsity players were: Cleveland Carr, Republic; Waddell, Aurora; Ryan Arnold, Aurora; Josh Steward, McDowell; Joseph Steward, McDowell; Isaiah Newman, Aurora; Ethan Chaffin, Harrison, Ark.; Zack Cunningham, Harrison, Ark.; Tanner Young, Marionville; Tanner Courtney, Monett; Jaxon Courtney, Monett; and Sam Hamblett, Washburn.

The JV players were Ben Hamblett, Washburn, Tyler Wilbourn, Monett, and Cameron Linch, Granby

The varsity boys ended their season 27-29 overall, and the JV boys finished with a 15-14 record.
