Pierce City Project Graduation is sponsoring the Jenny Garner Memorial Golf Tournament to raise funds for an alcohol and drug-free graduation celebration for the Pierce City High School Class of 2012.
This is the annual tournament that has proven to be one of Project Graduation's most successful fundraising efforts for the past several years.
This year, the tournament was named in honor of Jenny Garner, a senior classmate who died in January. Garner enjoyed golf and was a member of the Pierce City golf team.
The event is slated to take place starting at 8 a.m. on April 14 at Center Creek Country Club, located at 2650 Highway 37 north of Interstate 44 near Sarcoxie.
The tournament features a three-person scramble format with an entry fee of $150 per team, which includes green fees, a golf cart and lunch. Contests for the longest drive and closest to the pin will also be held. Prize money and door prizes will be awarded. Mulligans may be purchased.
The number of flights will be based on the number of entries.
"I promised to manage the golf tournament before Jenny died," said Bryce Garner, Jenny's father, who is serving as Project Graduation's golf tournament committee chairman. "I'm honored that they named the tournament in honor of her.
"We ask for the community's help in providing safe and enjoyable activities for our 58 graduating seniors this year," added Garner.
Garner is currently seeking tournament sponsors. Area businesses can advertise on the tee boxes at the golf course for a $125 fee. Companies can also share advertising space at a cost of $75 per business.
Post-graduation plans include an all-night lock-up party at St. Mary's activity center in Pierce City and a senior trip to Orange Beach, Ala., at the end of May.
