He was born on Aug. 31, 1927 in Hurley, Mo. to Edmon and Becky Wright. They preceded him in death, as did his brothers, Harvey Wright and Lester Wright, and his sister, Margaret Lucille Smid.
After graduating from Marionville High School, Freddie attended SMSC, then taught at Buck Prairie School, north of Marionville.
Freddie married Oletta Evelyn Black, Aurora, on Aug. 7, 1948. They were married for 63 years.
He was administrative assistant for the Missouri National Guard in Aurora and chief accountant and supervisor for the Gas Service Company in Monett, Aurora, and Neosho.
"Bro. Freddie" began preaching and pastoring Southside Baptist Church in Joplin, Mo. on March 16, 1958 and pastored the church for over 51 years. He retired in June 2009.
Freddie is survived by his wife, Oletta, son: David Wright; daughters: Pamela Backerman, Esther Lawellin and spouse, Doug, all of Joplin; and Brenda Richards and spouse, Rob, of Neosho; 10 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren; two brothers: Oliver Wright, of Marionville, and Don Wright, of Columbia.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 30, 2012, at Parker Mortuary from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be on Saturday, March 31, 2012, at 11 a.m. at Forest Park Baptist Church, Joplin, Mo. Burial will be at Ozark Memorial Cemetery, Joplin, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Freddie Wright Memorial Fund where donations will be divided, as signified by donors, to the Southside Baptist Mission Fund, the Southside Baptist Building Fund, or to a benevolence fund.
